Re: 2014 Random Shows Postby sierrach on Sun Jun 08, 2014 11:18 pm Howdy!! That's my Texas coming out. As you all know, I am not the best story teller. Got into Texas just a few hours before the show. RQ and company had been there for awhile, since Friday. Winn and Becky and Cdo and I arrived on Saturday afternoon. Got dressed and met at the venue. I was the first one there and they were just setting everything up and as I walked by the showroom...all of a sudden I hear!! A sound check! I sneaked into the room and listened. Everyone up on stage was very casual...as you can see from the photos! But...even at sound check..Jason sounded very good. Sound check song "Runaway", Listened for a bit and the went out into the hall to find RQ and there she was! We hung around the hallway, talking with everyone and found out that RQ had scored us meet/greet passes for a photo with Jason! She sacraficed the freedom to use her professional camera, so we could get free passes! Thank you >3. It was GREAT! But, they were kinda moving us along. I was trying to talk to him and they kept brushing us aside. Then we got a group photo from the photographer! Jason was very gracious and sweet as always. He really did not seem that surprised to see us! I guess he has learned to expect us wherever he goes. Some people from the event , came up to talk to us about coming so far to see Jason and they, acted happy to see us there. Kind of impressed with our support (stalking behavior) The banquet hall was very beautiful and really packed. The venue was HUGE and amazing! It actually used to be a ranch. The grounds were beautiful. But, expensive! So expensive   Most of the tables were full. The dinner was very good. We had grits (I thought they were mashed potatoes) haha! They faked me out but they were delicious. This organization is quite impressive, what they do for families, children. Very touching stories. Could not help but think Jason belonged there. The show was wonderful. He did a nice mix of songs. And every single one was well done. Jason's new drummer and guitar player, besides Jordan fit in nicely with his songs. And RQ had another surprise for us. Betsy joined us! It was a nice surprise, although she split her time between our table and Jason's table where Mandy and Madeline and her parents and Jordan were seated. We got to spend some time talking to Mandy and finally got to meet Madeline for the first time. Just as sweet as can be. You can see we got a group shot of everyone. It was nice to talk with Mandy, I think the last time I saw her was when she was pregnant with Madeline. She said Jason is working hard on the house. Made her promise an after photo of the completed house. After ward he had his usual meet and greet. I bought a new cd, I really needed it, I was down to about 3 in my stash at home Jason chatted and talked to everyone. And RQ decided I needed another photo with Jason. Who am I to argue. It was a most special evening. So glad I went. This is not really much of a story. But, the real story tellers Becky and Cdo have yet to report in. And photos and video to follow from Winn and RQ. So hold on to your seats, it's gonna be good!! sierrach Re: 2014 Random Shows Postby sierrach on Sun Jun 08, 2014 11:18 pm Howdy!! That's my Texas coming out. Nice article about Jason, September 4, 2014 published September 7, 2014 thewichitan.com/american-idol-alum-jason-castro-dazzles-crowd-300/American Idol alum Jason Castro dazzles crowd of 300 SEPTEMBER 7, 2014 BY LOWELL NASH LEAVE A COMMENT Share Button TwitterFacebookGoogle PlusPinterestLinkedinTumblrStumbleUponDiggRedditBebo Jason Castro, American Idol alum, performs Sept. 4 at Akin Auditorium. Jason Castro, American Idol alum, performs Sept. 4 at Akin Auditorium. Nearly 300 students, faculty and community members gathered in Akin Auditorium on Sept. 4 to listen to American Idol alum Jason Castro perform in the first Artist Lecture Series of the 2014-2015 year. “I loved it. I am big Jason Castro fan,” Daniel Alexander, freshman in kinesiology, said. “I have followed his career since he was on American Idol.” Castro was a contestant on the seventh season of American Idol. In the early stages of the season he instantly became a judge and fan favorite. He set himself apart from the other contestants by becoming the first American Idol hopeful (on any season) to play an instrument. Castro’s easy-going persona, smooth vocals and signature dreadlocks helped him land in the top four before being eliminated. Even after falling short of the American Idol title, Castro continued to work toward his dreams and was quickly signed to Atlantic Records. “One of my first managers told me while I was getting ready for a showcase in front of a label, you have to be undeniable,” Castro said. “You have be good enough to where the record executives can’t say no. Those words have always stuck with me through Idol and everything that’s happened since.” Castro released his self-titled debut album on April 13, 2010, and scored an international hit with his lead single “Let’s Just Fall in Love Again” reaching number one in several countries. Despite his success as a pop artist, Castro wanted to make inspirational music and share his faith as a Christian. “One of my main goals is for the audience to leave happy,” Castro said. “I want them to have hope and know that there’s a great life ahead of you. I feel like so many of us can get stuck in the struggles of life and I just want make music that helps people escape from that, to connect to other people and realize that there is something greater than our problems.” Stephanie Portillo, junior in social work, said, “I thought it was wonderful and very touching.” Castro has consistently toured since his stint on American Idol, released a sophomore album entitled “Only a Mountain,” and can often be seen making cameos in his brother’s YouTube videos. However, there is one thing that has his fans longing for his American Idol glory days, but that is because he shaved off his famous dreadlocks. “I was missing his dreads,” Ashley Darby, senior in sports leisure studies, said. “But I did enjoy listening to his music. It has a chill vibe. I will check out his music on iTunes.” Castro was the first of five artists presented by the Artist Lecture Series. The next will be Animal Planet star Jeff Corwin on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. in Akin Auditorium.
