We have a nice little report from Rereader!

So far as I heard, he said nothing about the show! It was playing on a huge screen TV during the afterparty is what it amounted to. But I'm getting ahead of myself...
(This is going to be as short as I can manage because I am tired, sorry!)
Right. Well, I didn't go to the dinner part of the evening, and *ahem* no one from Copia was going, so I arrived at the Rockwood all alone. (Feeling guilty yet?) They had considerably fewer tables out than they did last year, and one long table was reserved for the folks at the dinner (reasonable), so I asked some people at a partly inhabited table if I could squeeze in, and ended up smack against the stage, which was nice. And then everyone else came in, and I got up and chatted a little with Cathy Anne and Gloria (both of whom yoohooed to me or I would never have seen them--that place is DARK. I believe I mentioned that last year, but it bears repeating. I have no idea how anyone sees anything with the stage lights off!). And then Jason came in and hopped up on the stage right in front of me, and looked at me and smiled and went "Rachel!" Night officially made.
So then he played a nice long acoustic set, just him and his guitar (and his uke for Over the Rainbow). And now I am going to jump ahead to the end of the set for a minute, because after he finished and left the stage, a guy came out and started clearing for the second show, and sort of pushed this over onto my table, so I stole rescued it:

Jason's professional-musician set list. On a paper towel. I think the numbers on the right are where he puts his capo.
(And it isn't stolen because I told Jason later that if he sees it popping up all over the internet, it's because I stole it, and he said I could have it. So it's a GIFT!)
Backtracking a bit (don't fall off!), it really was a wonderful set, Jason was very happy and relaxed and in great voice. He clearly was enjoying himself--I'm sure it was a nice change from doing these short sets at huge shows to doing a nice expansive set in a small venue filled with dedicated fans and friends. And on a couple of occasions, Madeline made herself heard, which was adorable.
Jumping back to where I was--after the set, we sort of moved ourselves to "Stage 3", which is another, larger room with no stage but with a super-big TV mounted on one wall, but no one paid it more than sporadic attention. (And I must point out that it was also a VERY DARK ROOM! Maybe just a little less dark than the other room, or maybe my eyes had more time to adjust.) I mostly hung around with Gloria (and her extremely charming and lively DH) and Cathy Anne and Cristina. I also spoke a bit with David and some of the other people there, and, by dint of following him around casually standing in his vicinity I got to speak with Jason a few times, not just the one time when I told him about the set list! At one point I told him he'd put together a beautiful album, which embarrassed him a bit, but what could I do? It IS a beautiful album, I couldn't lie about it. I also asked him if he had changed any of the lyrics in Safehouse, and he said he had but he thought not much, mostly in the bridge. (We'll have to check the Rockwood video from last year and see how much was changed. Yes, fact-checking is mandatory. Always!) And I said that I thought whatever he changed, it made an important difference--the song originally was about "her" problem (the girl in the song) but now it wasn't her problem, he'd made it my problem. At which he lit up and said that that was exactly the idea.
Somewhere in there they located the CDs and Jason signed them and gave them out. I don't know what he wrote for anyone else, but he definitely personalized mine, very sweet. And I don't remember if it was Cathy Anne or Gloria that wanted a picture of the four of us with Jason, but she did, and it was getting late, so I rounded them up and over to Jason so we could get the photo, and then I told Jason that it was lovely but I had an hour subway ride home so I was leaving, and I herded Cathy Anne and Cristina out with me--er, I mean we all walked over to the subway station together and that was my evening, kiddies. Good night!
